Description of classes and what we teach...
Illustration in Pastels
This class introduces drawing through fundamental concepts, focusing on core elements such as shape, form, and value.
Students are encouraged to engage with the lesson independently, fostering a deeper understanding and hands-on learning experience, rather than simply copying from the instructor. The primary goal is to nurture self-reliant artists who can create original work without relying on existing artist works.
Pastels serve as a versatile medium, allowing students to explore techniques ranging from beginner to advanced levels.
Realism in Charcoal
Realism is all about paying close attention to detail. Understanding form and value is crucial for truly seeing the world around you and capturing its likeness. While your interpretation as the artist is unique, accurate translation is key.
In this class, you'll begin by learning to draw from photographs, gradually progressing to 3D objects, landscapes, and portraits.
This is an intensive course, designed for those with foundational drawing skills, providing the perfect environment to build on and refine your technique.
Indian Traditional Arts
Madhubani / Kalamkari
This class introduces the rich cultural elements of traditional Indian art forms, exploring their origins, meanings, and historical significance. We will delve into how our ancestors created art and the stories they sought to tell.
Students will then apply these ancient techniques to create their own artwork. Madhubani, rooted in storytelling, and Kalamkari, focused on scriptures and motifs, both offer unique approaches. Each art form is deeply intertwined with cultural practices that not only guide our work but also inspire in ways that Western fine art often doesn't.
Digital Art
Digital Art is offered only for ages 12 and up. This age threshold ensures that students have a basic foundation in traditional art before exploring a new medium.
Digital drawing is often misunderstood—it isn’t a shortcut or a separate art form. It’s simply another medium, where the same rules of drawing and painting still apply. Without strong fundamentals, the medium itself serves little purpose.
Lessons begin with an introduction to the software, followed by charcoal studies to strengthen hand-eye coordination on a glass screen. Painting and color theory are introduced only after a solid drawing base is established.
