Description

About this experience Over four weeks, young artists will create their own vibrant lotus pond painting inspired by the rich storytelling traditions of Pattachitra folk art. Designed for ages 8+, this guided summer project encourages patience, observation, color exploration, and confidence while building a detailed artwork layer by layer. Students will work step by step through understanding the composition, painting expressive lotus flowers, building backgrounds, and adding decorative details to bring the final scene to life. Along the way, they will learn foundational painting techniques including color layering, brush control, blending, and creating depth through simple forms and patterns. Each class focuses on a different stage of the artwork so children can enjoy the process without feeling rushed. While reference outlines and guidance will be provided, students will make creative choices in color combinations and finishing details to create a piece that feels uniquely theirs. All materials are provided. No prior drawing or painting experience is required. This is a process-based art program designed to build creativity and confidence rather than replicate a sample exactly. Every artwork will naturally vary in brushstrokes, color choices, and final details — making each finished piece one of a kind. At the end of the 4-week series, students will take home a completed artwork they can proudly display.
